The “Kamouh El Hermel” structure, as the local calls it, is believed to have been constructed at the end of the Hellenistic period. It is an ancient edifice with an uncertain builder.
Scholars have proposed various theories, suggesting that it may have served as a funerary site or a monument honoring a Syrian royal’s impressive abilities. This towering structure stands at approximately 27 meters and features captivating, eerie scenes on each of its four sides.
Interestingly, flint tools from the Neolithic era (10,000 – 4,000 BC) were found in the area, indicating that it may have been inhabited during that period. Despite being restored in the 1930s, the edifice has been sadly neglected by local authorities, with unsightly graffiti now covering its walls and base.
