Built by Prince Saif Al-Din Barsbay, the Lion’s tower – or Burj El Siba’a, was part of a series of coastal watch towers erected in the 13th century to prevent any future landings by the crusaders, following their defeat against the Mamluk armies.
This 3 story jewel is cubic shaped, constructed with sandstone, and its walls reinforced by Roman columns. Its gate is imposing and follows an ablaq architecture.
The tower is located in the train station of Tripoli and is accessible for visitors.
